Below are some packing and storage tips that we thought may help you. We carry and have access to all packing supplies you may require.
Storage Unit:
Maximize your storage space with planning. Pack heavy items in small, easy-to-lift boxes and use bubble wrap to protect fragile items. Arrange frequently used articles near the door and breakable goods at the top of the storage space. To locate items quickly and easily, label all boxes and leave enough space to permit access.Clothing, drapes, and dry goods:
Ideally, clothing and drapes should be stored in hanging cartons. Otherwise, carefully fold them and store in dresser drawers or cedar chests with bedding and dry goods.
Dishes and glassware:
Wrap glass items individually, preferably using bubble or plastic wrap. Store at the top of the unit, with all heavy boxes placed underneath.
Appliances
Ensure that refrigerators and freezers are dry. Place some goods inside but make sure the doors are left slightly open. Stack boxes on the tops of refrigerators, freezers and stoves.
Bicycles and other metal items:
To minimize rust, place a few drops of machine oil on a rag and wipe all metal surfaces.
Books and documents
Pack books flat to protect their spines. To prevent moisture absorption, do not place directly on concrete floors.
Furniture:
Place padding, corrugated cardboard or plastic sheets on the floor. Disassemble furniture and wrap legs. If table legs are not detachable, place the table on padding with the legs pointing up. Stand sofas and mattresses on end. Place small, light weight articles in dresser drawers and stack boxes on dresser tops. Do no place upholstery on the floor. Cover your furniture with a bed sheet to protect from dust.
Mirrors, Windows and Screens:
These items should be stored on edge, not flat.
Records & Phonographs
L.P. records should be stored on edge to prevent warping. When moving a record player, the tone arm and turntable should be secured to prevent damage.
Holiday Items
Replace in original cartons that contained delicate ornaments and pad the ornaments with packing paper or news print. Wrap strings of lights around a piece of cardboard before placing in carton lined with packing paper.
Label Boxes
Label all of your storage boxes. Keep a list of labeled boxes at home or in your office for easy recovery when you need to locate.
Pack Storage Space Carefully
Leave air space around perimeter to aid ventilation. Leave a walkway to the rear of your space for easy access. Place frequently used items at the front of storage unit.
Prohibited Storage Goods:
Do not store food items, perishables, liquids, explosives, flammable liquids, and fuels, propane tanks, toxic materials or other items that need a controlled environment.
